BPSC 72nd Special Dossier — Track B, Day 8
1. Aditya-L1: India's Maiden Space-Based Solar Observatory
•
Launch & Insertion: Successfully launched on 2 September 2023 aboard ISRO's PSLV-C57 from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota, and placed into a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1), approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.
•
Why Lagrange Point 1 (L1)? L1 provides a gravitational equilibrium point enabling the spacecraft to remain in a stable halo orbit with minimal station-keeping fuel. It affords an unhindered, continuous 24×7 view of the Sun without any eclipses or planetary occultations.
•
Scientific Objectives: Understanding Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), solar flare genesis, coronal heating mechanisms, solar wind acceleration, and space weather forecasting.
•
Seven State-of-the-Art Indigenous Payloads:
•
Remote Sensing Payloads (4):
1.
VELC (Visible Emission Line Coronagraph): Primary payload built by IIA Bengaluru to image the solar corona and CMEs.
2.
SUIT (Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope): Built by IUCAA Pune to image the Photosphere and Chromosphere in UV.
3.
SoLEXS (Solar Low Energy X-ray Spectrometer): Flare monitoring.
4.
HEL1OS (High Energy L1 Orbiting X-ray Spectrometer): High-energy solar flare dynamics.
•
In-situ Payloads (3):
5.
ASPEX (Aditya Solar wind Particle Experiment): Solar wind ion dynamics.
6.
PAPA (Plasma Analyser Package for Aditya): Solar wind composition.
7.
MAG (Advanced Tri-axial High Resolution Digital Magnetometers): Interplanetary magnetic fields.
2. KIRTI Initiative: Grassroots Sports Scouting via AI & Analytics
•
Nomenclature: Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI).
•
Target Cohort: Children and youth aged 9 to 18 years across school and community levels.
•
Technological Architecture: Operates across 174 Talent Assessment Centres using standardized physical evaluation protocols integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics (over 1.87 lakh athletic assessments completed).
•
Strategic Vision: Establishing an uninterrupted talent pipeline to position India among the Top 10 sporting nations by the 2036 Olympic Games and the Top 5 sporting nations by 2047.
3. BharatGen AI: India's Sovereign Multimodal Generative AI
•
Government Anchor: Launched in June 2025 under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
•
Academic Consortium: Led by IIT Bombay in collaboration with premier research institutions.
•
Multimodal Architecture: The world's first government-funded initiative designed to build foundation models that understand and generate Text, Speech, and Vision across all 22 official Indian languages of the Eighth Schedule, ending linguistic digital divides.
4. Renewable Revolution: Solar Capacity Surpasses 150 GW
•
Milestone: India's total installed solar power capacity crossed 150 Gigawatts (GW) by 31 March 2026—a 53-fold increase from a meager 2.82 GW in 2014.
•
Unprecedented Velocity: The last 50 GW was commissioned in just 15 months, marking the fastest clean energy ramp-up in developing world history.
•
National Power Mix Transformation: Over 50% of India's total installed electricity generation capacity is now powered by non-fossil fuel sources, achieving India's COP-26 Paris NDC target substantially ahead of the 2030 deadline.
5. Defence Industrialization: All-Time Record Defence Exports
•
Record Fiscal Export: In FY 2025-26, India's defence exports surged to an unprecedented ₹38,424 crore, registering an extraordinary 62.66% annual growth over the previous fiscal (₹23,622 crore).
•
Export Matrix:
•
Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) grew 151% to ₹21,071 crore.
•
Private sector defence firms contributed ₹17,353 crore.
•
Total exporters grew to 145 companies supplying advanced platforms (BrahMos, Pinaka, Akash, Dornier-228, artillery) to over 80 partner nations.
6. Agri-Waste Circularity, Satellite Navigation & Rural Tech
•
Circular Bio-Economy: India produces ~350 million tonnes of agricultural residue annually. MNRE projects that converting this biomass into power, biochar, and compressed biogas can unlock over 18,000 MW of renewable power.
•
GAGAN (GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation): Indigenous Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) jointly developed by ISRO and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). DGCA-certified for Approach with Vertical Guidance (APV-1), making India the fourth global region with operational SBAS capabilities.
•
DAANVEER Initiative: A flagship digital portal launched by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj via the 'Meri Panchayat' application, enabling citizens, diaspora, and corporate donors to verify and furnish hardware and computers directly to needy Gram Panchayats.
•
Sugarcane & Biofuels: India produced a record 500 million tonnes of sugarcane in FY 2025-26 (up 43.5% over the decade), driving the nationwide 20% Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) program.
